The Tech Behind It: Power, Voltage, and Size
We match our lamp specs to what the Sidel machine actually demands. Most of our units are 400V, 2500W halogen lamps, and they’re built to an exact length to fit the heater reflector perfectly. Why 400V? It keeps the current lower for the same wattage. That means less power loss and allows for thinner internal wiring. The wattage is tuned to blast out high heat density, fast. The preform needs to hit the right temperature before it even gets to the blow station. And that length? It’s not a guess. It’s calculated to give you even heating from the neck to the body. Get the length wrong, and you’re either creating hot spots or wasting power and killing the lamp’s life.
The Secret Sauce: Halogen, Quartz, and Connectors
Blackening happens when the evaporated tungsten starts coating the inside of the quartz envelope. Our solution is the halogen cycle. It’s a chemical reversal—that evaporated tungsten gets put back onto the filament instead of sticking to the glass. We use high-purity quartz to handle the shock of rapid heating and cooling. And the R7s connector? It’s the standard for a reason. It makes a solid connection, handles the high current, and locks the lamp in place so it won’t wiggle loose from vibration. There is a trade-off, though. The halogen cycle needs a hot envelope to work. That means you have to keep the reflector and cooling system clean. If the cooling is undersized, the lamp runs too hot, and its life takes a nosedive.
