Heating a PET preform evenly when you’re running at top speed is a nightmare. It’s a constant battle with physics. If the heat just sits on the surface, you end up with thin walls and bottles that burst. Not ideal. That’s why we build our infrared lamps specifically for Husky HyPET systems. The goal is simple: push that heat deep into the wall of the preform, not just the skin.
The Secret is in the Waveband
Here’s the thing about heat penetration. It’s all about the spectral output of the quartz. We use short-wave infrared emitters because they actually “talk” to the PET material. By tweaking the wattage and voltage—pushing more power into every millimeter—we can get the core of the preform up to that glass transition temperature. And the best part? You do it without scorching the outside.
No-Hassle Hardware
We make these tubes as drop-in replacements. Period. Whether you’re using R7s or SK15 connectors, the length and fit are exact. No one wants to spend their afternoon fighting with wiring during a changeover. We use high-purity quartz so they don’t burn out on you prematurely. Plus, some of our setups have special coatings that bounce the heat back toward the preform. It just stops the energy from going to waste.
Real Talk: The Shop Floor
Look, these high-penetration lamps put out a massive amount of heat. You’ve got to make sure your oven’s airflow and cooling fans are actually doing their job. If your cooling is lagging, those lamp ends will overheat, and your connectors will die way sooner than they should. We also obsess over stable wattage across the entire tube. Why? Because “cold spots” are the enemy. They lead to uneven stretching and a mountain of rejected bottles. When the heat is consistent, you can finally crank up the machine speed and actually trust that the quality is still there.
