Power, Voltage, and Size: Getting the Heat to Match the Machine
For PET blow molding, we size these lamps to pack a lot of heat into a small space. A typical unit runs at 400V and 2500W, so it heats quickly and keeps the temperature stable even when the machine keeps cycling. The tube is about 300mm long because that matches the standard heating zone width on most preform heating stations. That length gives you even coverage without hot spots at the ends. Here’s the trade-off: more wattage and voltage mean faster response, but your machine’s cooling and electrical setup has to be able to handle it. If you’re running high cycle rates, the inside of the heating box gets hot. Make sure the airflow is enough—otherwise, you’ll chew through lamp life.
Material and Design: Halogen, Quartz, and the R7s Fit
Inside, it’s a shortwave halogen element sealed in a quartz tube. The halogen chemistry keeps the filament stable over time, and the quartz delivers that shortwave energy right where it needs to go—straight to the preform surface. Many versions use a reflective coating on part of the tube to push more energy forward. That means less wasted heat drifting onto nearby parts. And the connector? Usually R7s. It’s a bi-pin design that locks in place, handles high current, and gives you a solid mechanical and electrical connection. That makes the lamp a true drop-in replacement in standard fixtures, and it helps prevent the kind of contact resistance that leads to early burnout.

In PET blow molding, the preform has to get to a uniform temperature quickly, so the parison stretches evenly. Halogen shortwave lamps do that by heating the surface directly, with fast response when the machine cycles.
