
Getting Your Halogen IR Lamps Right
Let’s talk about how these halogen infrared lamps actually work. At their core, it’s a tungsten filament inside a quartz tube with a bit of halogen gas mixed in. That gas is the secret sauce—it keeps the filament from evaporating too fast, which means the lamp lasts longer. We built these to pack a massive amount of heat into a tiny space. If you need something that heats up fast and doesn’t take up half your floor plan, this is it. The power side of things When you’re picking a lamp, keep a close eye on the voltage and wattage. That’s what controls your heat flux. The beauty of a higher voltage is that we can push more power through the filament without making the tube physically bigger. But here’s the catch: your power supply needs to be rock solid. One bad voltage spike and pop—your filament is gone. Also, don’t skimp on your cooling fans. These tubes get incredibly hot, and if the air isn’t moving, you’ll end up with melted sockets. Not a great look. Quartz and the “click” We use high-purity quartz for the glass because it lets shortwave radiation slide right through without soaking it up. Depending on what you’re doing, some of our lamps have special coatings to tweak the heat spectrum. For the connections, we usually stick with R7s or SK15. They’re basically plug-and-play for most industrial ovens. They grip the lamp tight, so you don’t have to worry about things shifting or rattling loose when the machinery starts vibrating. Real-world use (and the one big rule) If you’re blowing PET bottles or curing plastics, these are your best friend. They hit the right temperature in seconds. It’s incredibly efficient. But there is a trade-off: quartz is finicky. **Whatever you do, do not touch the glass with your bare hands.**The oils from your skin create these tiny hot spots on the surface. Once the lamp heats up, those spots become stress points, and the tube will crack way sooner than it should. Grab some lint-free gloves during installation. Keep the glass clean, wire it up right, and these lamps will actually last as long as they’re supposed to.
