
Getting Your PET Blowing Heat Just Right
If you’ve spent any time around a PET blowing machine, you know the struggle. Getting those preforms soft enough to blow without ruining the plastic is a delicate balance. That’s why we built our 800W halogen replacement lamps. They’re designed to hit that sweet spot—hot enough to work, but not so hot that you end up with uneven walls or burnt material. Let’s talk power. We went with 800W because you need that punch of heat to get the resin moving quickly. If you go too low on wattage, you’ll start seeing “cold spots,” especially in the base of the bottle. Not a good look. We use a high-density tungsten filament to keep the energy focused. Just a heads-up: make sure your wiring and power supply can actually handle the draw. If they can’t, you’re just asking for your terminals to burn out. Why quartz and halogen? Blow molding is brutal on equipment. The constant heating and cooling can snap cheaper bulbs. These use a quartz envelope to handle that stress. Inside, the halogen gas does the heavy lifting. It basically recycles the tungsten, pushing it back onto the filament so it doesn’t thin out and pop prematurely. Plus, these are drop-in replacements. You don’t have to rebuild your machine to make them fit. A few tips for the install. Most of these use standard connectors, so swapping them during a maintenance window is pretty fast. But here is the important part:make sure the fit is tight. A loose connection is a disaster waiting to happen. It creates arcs, and those arcs will melt your sockets right off the frame. One thing to keep in mind: 800W bulbs put out a lot of infrared heat. They’re great for the plastic, but they’re not great for your machine frame. Keep your reflectors spotless and your cooling fans humming. If you don’t, that extra heat can warp your jigs or trip the thermal shutdowns in your control cabinet, and then you’re dealing with downtime you don’t need.
