Think of it like a microwave versus a traditional oven. IR sends electromagnetic radiation straight into the coating. The heat happens inside the paint film, not just on the surface. Making it “Smart”
You can’t just set a timer and hope for the best when you’re automating. We hook these heaters up to PLC controllers and PID loops so the system thinks for itself. By linking the lamps to variable power supplies, the heat adjusts on the fly. If the conveyor speeds up or you switch from a thin veneer to a heavy slab, the system tweaks the intensity. No scorched edges, no tacky spots. Just consistent results.
The Reality Check
Now, look—nothing is perfect. Pumping out that much IR energy puts a real strain on your electrical setup. If you’re pushing for those lightning-fast cycle times, things are going to get hot. Not just the wood, but the air around the equipment. You’ll need to get your exhaust and cooling fans right, or you’ll risk frying your control electronics. It’s a trade-off, but a manageable one.
